The club prides itself on coaching experience, knoweldge and respect. They understand from there own experiences how to win a premiership.


1st Grade Coach

Tim Olsen

Tim has played for Tech Waratahs his entire career. He represented the club for Illawarra from 2002-2014, and captained the side from 2010 -2014. He was both 1st Grade Captain & Club Captain for 1st Grade. He has played in all 4 of our 1st Grade Premierships. He has played over 300 1st Grade game for the Club. He is also a Life Member. He has also been in the coaching group for the Illawarra Colts Representative side for the past several years. Tim had previously coached the 1st Grade side for several seasons.

1st Grade Assistant Coaches

Lee Martin & Brad Veigel

Brad & Lee both return to join Tim in coaching the 1st Grade side for 2020.

Lee has played in all 4 1st Grade Premierships and 2 3rd Grade Premierships. He has played 300 1st Grade games for the club. He is a Caldwell Cup Winner with the Illawarriors. He was selectred for NSW Country, and for the Brumbies runners before injury struck.

Brad has played over 100 games for the Club. He was a member of the 2004, 2005 and 2009 1st Grade Premiership teams.


1st Grade Manager

Wayne Ireland

Wayne is a Life Member of Tech Waratahs and played for both Technical College and Tech Waratahs. He is the Clubs Licensee and has fulfilled many roles thoughout his time at the club, including President. He was 1st Grade Manager for the 2009 1st Grade Premiership and is the Tech Waratahs historian and record keeper.

Wayne Ireland lives a breaths Tech Tahs.


2nd Grade Co-Coach

Gordon Hurry

Gordon has been long tied to the club, having previously coached both Senior and Junior teams, been a sponsor and Club President. Gordon has returned to the club this year after working away for several years and is again heavily involved in both the Senior and Junior sides of the Club.

2nd Grade Co-Coach

Luke Mayberry

Luke has previously played and coached for the Club and returns after several years away with his young family. Luke brings a wealth of experience to 2nd Grade and is a vocal and passionate supporter of the Club.


2nd Grade Manager

Campbell Hurry

Campbell was unable to play this season due to an ACL injury sustained in 2019 so has deciede to stay involved with the Club and manage his father Gordon's 2nd Grade team. Currently in his last year as a Trainee Auditor, Campbell is also the Clubs Assistant Treasurer.
